Amsterdam’s canal houses, gabled facades and neo-Gothic Central Station are all architectural gems, but we’ve chosen something simpler to represent this European city: the bicycle! The Dutch love cycling – most have grown up on two wheels – and use it to commute to work, for pleasure, to visit a friend or to traverse the rolling countryside. During rush hour, thousands of bicycles fill the streets, with crowds of cyclists waiting to cross at intersections. Cycling is a great way to get around the city of Amsterdam, as the streets and dedicated cycle paths have been designed not only to make room for bikes, but also to prioritise two-wheeled transport, which is known to be healthier and more environmentally friendly!

Visitors to Amsterdam are often drawn into the cycling culture, and there are cheap rental bikes (10 euros per day) all over the city. They are a great way to explore the winding streets of the old town, the city parks and forests, and the surrounding waterways and polders. If you join the cycling crowd, remember to obey the rules of the road, take a leaf out of the locals' guidebook, park your bike in the designated spaces, and enjoy the freedom and fun of cycling in this great European capital!

The Ugears Dutch Bike model from the World Cities collection is a classic bicycle with a rear rack and a front basket for shopping, or for taking a friend or pet for a ride. Small figurines of cats, dogs and flowers are included that can be placed in the basket. The rear stand and the display stand allow the bike to be kept upright for display. The model also features rotating pedals with a rubber chain that powers the rear wheel, a freely rotating front wheel and a movable handlebar. With 75 elements made of artist-quality composite wood, the DIY Dutch Bike by Ugears is classified as "Easy" and can be built in about 90 minutes. No glue or special tools are needed to assemble this 3D puzzle - just pop the pieces out of the laser-cut boards and snap them together. Illustrated instructions in 11 languages (English, German, Ukrainian, French, Polish, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Italian, Chinese and Korean) guide the construction. Perfect for displaying on a shelf or table at home or in the office.

The Dutch Bike model will appeal to those who dream of travelling to Holland, cycling enthusiasts, animal lovers or anyone who simply wants to build and display a beautiful example of this iconic two-wheeler, emblem of Amsterdam.
